Grassroots Football Coaching Session Plans

45–75 minutes · 3v3 to 11v11 · 140 sessions available

PlayTactiq publishes a new football coaching session plan every week, covering every age group from U6 mini soccer through to U16 competitive football. Each session is written for a specific age group, with drills, coaching points, and game formats that match where players are in their development — not a generic template copied across age groups.

The sessions are used by grassroots coaches across the UK who want to run better training sessions without spending hours planning from scratch. Subscribers receive a full session pack every Monday: practices, animated pitch diagrams, a printable formation sheet, and targeted coaching notes.

All session plans are available inside PlayTactiq with a subscription. The sessions listed below give you a sample of what's inside — click through to see the session focus, coaching objectives, and first practice for each one.

What’s included in each session

Every PlayTactiq session plan includes: a structured warm-up, 2–3 age-appropriate practices with coaching points, a small-sided or full game, a printable formation sheet, and animated drill diagrams. New content published every Monday.

Coaching principles for U6–U16

1

Age-differentiated, not age-generic

A U8 dribbling session and a U14 dribbling session have different objectives, different pitch sizes, different group sizes, and different coaching language. PlayTactiq session plans are written specifically for each age group — not adapted from a single template.

2

Practice to game transfer

Every session is structured so that the practices build toward a theme in the final game. Players who understand why they've been practising a specific skill transfer it more readily when they see the same situation in the game.

3

Printable and pitchside-ready

Session plans are designed to work without a screen on the pitch. The printable formation sheet gives coaches everything they need — drill setup, key coaching points, and the game format — on a single A4 page.

4

Weekly cadence keeps content fresh

Grassroots coaches who plan week-to-week deliver more varied, more effective sessions than those who repeat a small library of familiar drills. A new session every week makes it easy to keep training interesting throughout the season.
